DEVELOPMENT OF FINAL OUTCOME

BACKGROUND

Inspired mostly by Powell, I have experimented creating a collage of old photos of myself, my mother and my nanny emphasising the aspect of generations within my work. I have collected photos from both my grandmother and mother from their and my past to create a montage to represent a nostalgic, faded memory feel. As the majority of the old photos were in black and white, I felt it would be easier as well as more suitable to the theme to carry this colour scheme throughout my final piece, like i have for the majority of my project. As I have previously mentioned, I feel as if a black and white theme is very suitable in portyaing the meaning of my artwork due to its conntations and emotive effect.

Within the layout of the background itself, I have tired to keep a similar form and structure to my Santiago experiments of the trypich of eyes. As they were very alined and symetrical, I thought I could bring this forward subltely into my final piece by incorporating 3 so called 'strips' of photos into my background.

Moreover, it is also clear within my background that the main gender i am focusing on is women. Although there is a men within one of the images, I feel as if this different aspect enforces the similarities in the rest of the images - in a way it makes it more obvious that the rest of the photographs are of girls/women.

Futhermore, within the majority of the photos the eyes are also visable and where they are not the focus of the eyes is still focused on the memory within the picture. For example, in the image in the top left hand corner of my grandmother and my mother, even though my nanny is not looking at the camera she is instead looking at my mother. Again this individual aspect enforces the eyes in the other images, but also enforces the idea of memories. This is because often I feel within moments of making happy memories, we are so indulged and pre-occupied that we dont bother to pose for a picture but instead take in the moment for ourselves.

MAIN INSPIRATION - MARK POWELL

REFINED BACKGROUND

It is visually clear that for my background I was mainly inspired by Powell (image referanced to the left), but I have also experimented using biro for my final piece. Even though I plan to use biro inpired by Powell, I am still taking the 'un-finished' aspects from my artists, especially Carla Bromhead and Jonathan Yeo. For ecample, im my previous biro experiment I still took influence from Bromhead by making the main focus of the drawing on the face, making the focus on the eyes and wrinkles. Morever, taking an aspect from Yeo, I also made sure to outline the whole image just not completely fill it in with detail.

As my previous experiment using a biro on tissue paper, I believe it will also be suitable to take this aspect into my final outcome. During my experimentation using a biro, especially without drawing on tissue paper I found it hard to fill the detail in without making it too dark. Therefore, the crinkles within the tissue paper help to seperate the tones and textures visualy seen within the skin as well as enphasising the wrinkles themselves.

To create more depth within my background, and to incorporate photoshop more into my final piece I have experimented fading the map of Northumberland from where my grandmother was born that I have previously experimented with into the background. I feel as if the combination of the map and old photographs will give both a visual and meaning effect. This being the map of the place my grandmother was born, and the route of my mother and myself with the combination of visual memories that we will all interpret differently.

MINI PHOTOSHOOTS

To finally enforce the idea of a trypich, I have had the idea to produce 3 drawings, 2 smaller drawings of myself and my mother. And a larger A2 size drawing of my Nanny. I have decided to create the 2 other smaller drawings to go along side my larger drawing, but for the larger drawing itself to be my official final outcome.

I believe that creating a trypich pulls my research together about generations and the focus on females. As well as this, due to the fact that the background of my final piece will be made up of myself, my mother and my grandmother, I feel it would be more suited to produce 3 seperate pieces.

Although, I have decided to still keep the focus on by grandmother by creating the larger drawing of her due to the fact that she is the original source of myself and my mother, and without her we wouldnt have the memories, personalities and lives that we live today.

Therefore, to prep for my 2 smaller drawings of myself and my mother I have carried out two small photoshoots capturing images of us both still focusing on different persoective and view points. I have used similar positions in the photos as I did with my nanny working in the style of Bromhead. I like the chnage of eye contyact within the photographs, and believe each view point could represent something different for example, looking into the past.
